On February 13, 2026, Empire Electric Association’s Board of Directors approved a change to EEA’s Rules and Regulations regarding late fees and approved a new Wheeling tariff. The Wheeling tariff is a new tariff that allows for the transportation of electricity across EEA’s electric system to the Bulk Electric System.

The change to the Rules and Regulations eliminates a 5-day waiting period and allows a late fee to be applied immediately after the due date. This change aligns with a recent change to our billing schedule that gives members several additional days to pay bills compared to our previous billing schedule. Since members now have more time to pay bills, we determined the 5-day waiting period is no longer necessary.

The updated Rules and Regulations and the new Wheeling tariff are scheduled to go into effect on April 1, 2026. Written comments about the proposed changes may be submitted electronically through EEA’s website or through hard copies delivered to EEA’s main office. Hard copies may be submitted by mail to P.O. Box K, Cortez, CO, 81321, or hand-delivered to EEA’s main office at 23999 Road L.4, Cortez, CO, 81321. Additionally, verbal comments may be submitted during the member input segment of EEA board meetings.

For any questions about this notice and/or the proposed changes, please contact EEA at (970) 565-4444 or toll free at 1-800-709-3726. Copies of tariffs and pertinent policies are available on EEA’s website at eea.coop. Tariffs and policies are also on file at EEA’s main office and are available for inspection during regular business hours.
